"The tone was perfect; calm and clear, supportive, challenging and entertaining as and when required....Inspiring, engaging, joyous."

"Single Shoe Productions gave my undergraduate students the opportunity to take risks, stretch themselves, and find their inner clowns. Filipa and Bradley are inspiring teachers; they guide the students through the work with presence, humor, and intelligence. I saw sides of my students that I had never seen before; thank you to Single Shoe for giving us the opportunity to play, expand, and learn as artists!"
Natasha Staley, Associate Professor of Voice and Acting, Virginia Tech
Over the last eight years, Single Shoe has taught theatre-making workshops both in the UK and abroad. The aim of these workshops is to inspire a new generation of artists to create their own original work.
As a company, play is at the heart of how we create work and this is the ultimate aim of all of our workshops. Play encourages us all to engage with the world around us, to explore who we are, why we create and what we want to say.
We devise sessions for all ages and backgrounds, from inexperienced participants to A-Level/GCSE and University students and practitioners. We tailor each activity to the goals of each group, community, school or university and ensure all participants have access to a high quality practice.
Our bespoke training can vary in length from a 90 minute session to week-long residencies. We teach the same creative tools and processes that we use in the development of our own work, so that participants have a true experience of what it is to create work that is physical, imaginative and playful.
Our activities include:
-
Intergenerational workshops
-
Bespoke workshops for service and charitable organisations
-
Workshops for drama students that culminate in curtain raisers
-
Masterclasses for practitioners (how to approach devising, creating from a theme or a question, how to build characters,…)
-
Post-show discussions about the work and an insight into our devising process
-
Undergraduate/Postgraduate lectures
-
Several already designed workshops (clown, character building, Lecoq pedagogy, platform, improvising skills)
-
Co-Devising and directing other artistic projects
Previous projects have included work with: Connections - National Theatre, Generations Working Together, Linking Generations, University of Derby, Avonbourne College, Paston Sixth Form College, Virginia Tech University, Touchstone Theater, Creighton University, Iowa Western University, Carver Centre for Technology and The Arts, South Hill Park Arts Centre, Sheringham Little Theatre, Theatre Royal Dumfries, Theatre Severn, An Lanntair, Theatre UnSpeakable and Ben Moffat Productions.
